Riffle & Rise is an independent editorial project by a small collective of anglers, guides, and writers who believe fly fishing deserves better than gear-of-the-year rankings and sponsored destination pieces.
We publish long-form technique guides, honest gear reviews, destination reports written from actual trips, and cultural writing that treats the sport as the century-old craft it is. Every article is original. Every recommendation is based on time on the water, not a manufacturer spec sheet.
Our editorial principles
- No affiliate-driven "best of" lists. If we recommend gear, we've fished it.
- Catch-and-release ethics and river stewardship are the default position, not a footnote.
- Destination reports name real access points, real seasons, real trade-offs — no glossy fantasy.
- We credit the anglers, guides, and communities who taught us. Nothing here is discovered alone.
Who writes here
Contributors include working guides from the American West and Patagonia, a bamboo rod builder, competitive anglers, entomologists, and one very persistent tenkara enthusiast. If you have a story worth telling from your home water, we would love to hear from you.
